Ruffled Skirt: Finished!

I finally finished my ruffled skirt!

One more time, in case you forgot, here is what I modeled it after.

However, I didn’t only use this tutorial, I used another one (which I can’t for the life of me find the link to!)  to make the skirt body, then modified it to make it ruffly, adding a waistband and zipper. (It’s my first time doing a zipper.) I didn’t do perfectly, but it wasn’t a total bust either. It will do, although its not as pretty as I would’ve liked it.

Here is the finished product!
(sorry about the lack of originality with the pictures and the bad lighting, but it’s cloudy and rainy and hubby isn’t home to help take photos. I wanted to do a pretty outside photo shoot, but I’m just too excited to wait, so here you go.)

Ruffled Skirt

I ended up making it a little more fancy than I planned, with three ways to wear the waist.

First, is a fold-over style waistband. (I still need to do something to make the edges near the zipper stay down. I’m thinking maybe some cute buttons or something.)

Next (my favorite, I think, but also the fanciest and least practical)  The high-waisted look:

With heels, it really dresses up nicely!
Finally, the un-tucked shirt look, in which the waistband is folded under into the skirt, rather than on the outside. This is the most casual, smooth look I think, and I’ll probably end up wearing it this way the most often. (Maybe. I might stick to the dressier one, because let’s face it: as a stay at home mom I need everything I can to help myself feel pretty and special after changing poopy diapers and doing laundry all day!)

So there you have it! I’m so pleased with how it turned out. This is my first article of clothing that I’ve made for myself that I really, really like a lot and would buy at a store, if I saw something similar. Hooray!
